Enter The Forbidden Zone

In 1968, 20th Century Fox released Planet Of The Apes, a film that explores a futuristic world where intelligent apes have taken control of the planet. Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, the movie adapted an original novel by French author Pierre Boulle: La Planète Des Singes.

The film follows an astronaut crew composed of Taylor (Charlton Heston), Landon (Robert Gunner), and Dodge (Jeff Burton) as they find themselves upon the surface of an unknown world. Stewart (Diane Stanley), their fourth crewmate, doesn’t survive the landing of their spacecraft. Gradually, their expedition across the planet’s terrain leads them to discover the existence of the world’s dominant species: apes. Landon and Dodge perish quickly, leaving Taylor alone and wounded after being shot in the throat. When he recovers, having been held captive by the apes, he learns about the nature of this perverse society.

Since the release of the original film, there have been various sequels. Four direct sequels — Beneath The Planet Of The Apes (1970), Escape From The Planet Of The Apes (1971), Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes (1972), and Battle For The Planet Of The Apes (1973) — concluded the story established in the first film.

Director Tim Burton created his interpretation of the franchise with Planet Of The Apes (2001), and this was followed by a new trilogy — Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011), Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014), and War For The Planet Of The Apes (2017) — that explored the origins of apekind. In this rendition, audiences follow the story of Caesar (Andy Serkis), an evolved chimpanzee.
