Stanley Kubrick's dazzling, Academy Award -winning achievement is a compelling drama of man vs. machine, a stunning meld of music and motion. Kubrick (who co-wrote the screenplay with Arthur C. Clarke) first visits our prehistoric ape-ancestry past, then leaps millenia (via one of the most mind-blowing jump cuts ever) into colonized space, and untimately whisks astronaut Bowman (Keir Dullea) into uncharted space, perhaps even into immorality. "Open the pod bay doors, HAL." Let an awesome journey unlike any other begin.

Would rate it 6 if I could

I love what they did with this limited edition steelbook for 2001: a space odyssey, a little pricey but its definitely one of a kind for a one of a kind film. Love what they do with these steelbooks and shipping is pretty fast considering I live in the US and its shipped from the UK. Keep up the great work guys you'll always have my business!

A blast from the past into the future.

There isn't much more to be said about 2001 the movie that hasn't been said a million times over. So rather than repeating that my review is of the 4K steelbook package from Zavvi. The 4K remaster is THE BEST way to view this classic film. All other versions are left in the dust both Visually and Audibly. The 4K transfer is an outstanding, textbook transfer that other films should aim to emulate. The 6-Track stereo mix of the film taken from the original 70MM mag reels is revelatory. Especially during the Stargate sequence where the Visual Effects of Douglas Trumball are given their masterclass presentation. This is an essential purchase for any fan of the film or anyone wanting to show off their home theaters. The steelbook packaging is just the icing on the cake.
