The Happiest Place On Earth

One of the biggest powerhouses in entertainment, The Walt Disney Company began as a humble venture conceived by two brothers, Walt and Roy O. Disney. Originally, the business focused exclusively on cartoons, developing several series and short films, such as Steamboat Willie (1928) and Plane Crazy (1929). This period also saw the introduction of Mickey Mouse, a character invented to replace Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, who had been the company mascot prior to the loss of their short-lived contractual agreement with Universal Pictures.

Following the success of their previous releases, Disney widened their ambitions, intending to release the first feature-length animated movie: Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937). Despite taking three years to create, the allocation of resources proved justifiable, as it became the highest-grossing film of the time after its debut. Naturally, the company acknowledged the profitability of these projects, and they subsequently made further animated pictures, including Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), and Bambi (1942).

The advent of the Second World War interrupted the day-to-day operations of the business, with many of the animators being drafted into the military. Nevertheless, they later managed to reintroduce the medium to consumers thanks to Cinderella (1950), Alice In Wonderland (1951), and Peter Pan (1953) — among others. This coincided with their exploration of live-action film, which is a key pillar of their modern-day offerings.
