The Merc With A Mouth

Created by writer Fabian Nicieza and writer/artist Rob Liefeld, Deadpool first appeared in Marvel Comics in The New Mutants #98 (1991). Originally conceived as a villain, the character evolved into an anti-hero over time.

In 2009, Deadpool made it to the big screen with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, portrayed by actor Ryan Reynolds. However, 2016 finally saw the character take on the starring role in his first feature film, Deadpool. Directed by Tim Miller based on a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the movie explores the origins of Wade, who was again played by Reynolds.

Deadpool begins with Wade finding out that he has terminal cancer. Wanting to survive so that he can live out his life with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), he agrees to take part in an off-the-books experiment. Said experiment proves to be successful, granting him extraordinary healing powers, but it also leaves him horribly deformed. In pursuit of a cure, Wade goes on the hunt for Ajax (Ed Skrein), his torturer, setting the stage for one hour and 48 minutes of comedy, action, and gore.
