Created by Shigeru Miyamoto in 1981, Donkey Kong is a video-game franchise that revolves around the eponymous gorilla. The character, alongside fellow Nintendo character Mario, made his debut in an arcade game simply titled Donkey Kong.

With the help of Diddy Kong, his sidekick, Donkey Kong seeks to protect his hoard of bananas from King K. Rool and his underlings.
