Beware The Red Balloon

In 1986, critically acclaimed author Stephen King released his 22nd novel: It. Like many of his previous works, the book implemented various horror themes, centering around a child-eating monster known as Pennywise The Dancing Clown. Living in the sewers of Derry (a small town located in Maine), Pennywise comes out of hibernation every 27 years to terrorise and feast upon the youngest locals. His default form is that of a sinister clown; however, he can change shape, which allows him to target his prey’s greatest fears.

The novel opens with the death of Georgie Denbrough, who is taken by Pennywise while playing with a paper boat on a rainy day. One year later, the story introduces readers to a group of seven misfit children (the Losers Club): Ben Hanscom, Eddie Kaspbrak, "Stuttering Bill" Denbrough (Georgie’s older brother), Richie Tozier, Stanley "Stan" Uris, and Beverly Marsh. Together, they uncover the mystery behind the disappearances taking place in Derry and take the fight directly to Pennywise.

A straight-to-television adaptation was aired in 1990 on ABC. Split into two parts, the miniseries stars actor Tim Curry as the eponymous creature. He is joined by Jonathan Brandis/Richard Thomas (Bill), Brandon Crane/John Ritter (Ben), Emily Perkins/Annette O'Toole (Beverly), Seth Green/Harry Anderson (Richie), Adam Faraizl/Dennis Christopher (Eddie), Marlon Taylor/Tim Reid (Mike), and Ben Heller/Richard Masur (Stanley).

Another adaptation simply titled It was released in 2017. The movie was followed by It: Chapter Two (2019), which concluded the story. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the films featured Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise), Finn Wolfhard/Bill Hader (Richie), Jaeden Martell/James McAvoy (Bill), Sophia Lillis/Jessica Chastain (Beverly), Jack Dylan Grazer/James Ransone (Eddie), Wyatt Oleff/Andy Bean (Stanley), Jeremy Ray Taylor/Jay Ryan (Ben), and Chosen Jacobs/Isaiah Mustafa (Mike).
