The Saga Continues

After the massive success of Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), George Lucas handed over the reins of the sequel to director Irvin Kershner. Titled Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, the film was released in 1980. The story continues to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and his allies — Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), and C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) — as they help the Rebel Alliance’s fight against the Galactic Empire.

At the start of the movie, three years have passed. The Death Star was destroyed, and the Empire is desperately hunting for those responsible. To do this, they send out probes, one of which locates the Rebel base on the ice planet Hoth. Knowing the location of their enemies, the Imperials dispatch a powerful force to eliminate them, and the Rebels are forced to flee. While Han and Leia board the Millennium Falcon, Luke departs on his own, charting a path to Dagobah, where Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) instructed him to go.

Upon reaching Dagobah, Luke meets the Jedi Master Yoda (Frank Oz), who teaches him the ways of the Force. Meanwhile, Han and company seek refuge on Bespin, hoping that Han’s old friend Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) can help them. Unfortunately, the bounty hunter Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch) is hot on their trail, and Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones) isn’t far behind.
