The Search For Luke Skywalker

In 2015, director J.J. Abrams released the latest film in the Star Wars franchise: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Unlike the prequel trilogy, which is set prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire, this new story picks up thirty years after the events of Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi (1983).

Taking the place of the Imperials, a new faction has arisen: the First Order. Led by Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), they have set their sights on the New Republic. To combat this new threat, the Resistance are searching for Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who has gone into exile after the collapse of his new Jedi order at the hands of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), a pilot of the Resistance, obtains a map that leads to Luke’s location, but the First Order tracks him to the planet Jakku. Not long after, Poe is apprehended; however, the droid BB-8 manages to escape with the plans and finds refuge with the scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley). Meanwhile, stormtrooper FN-2187 (John Boyega) frees Poe, having become disillusioned with the First Order. He is then given a new name: Finn.

Following their escape, Finn is separated from Poe by a crash on the surface of Jakku. His path across the desert leads him to Rey, and the pair flee aboard the Millennium Falcon. With the location of Luke still in the possession of BB-8, they decide to return the droid to the Resistance.
