Push the Button. You'll Know When.
Welcome to Thames, New Zealand. Population: 7,518 - and falling. Unless of course you're Johnny (Anton Tennet), the new member of a local gang led by Shelton (Jonathan Brugh, What We Do in the Shadows). He's multiplying.
After Johnny is foiled in an effort to double-cross Shelton at his own game of masterminding the sleepy town's unsurprisingly tame criminal underbelly, he inadvertently steals an ancient bracelet with which he can turn back time - and in the process create multiple clones of himself. This gives Johnny the ability to literally form his own gang against Shelton's. The only problem is: how can you learn to live your best life, when you're also having to figure out which one of you exactly that is? Oh, that and there's a demon after him for bending the rules of time, physics and just general common sense.
Tim van Dammen directs this 80s-throwback supernatural crime caper, dubbed by critics as "a grounded sci-fi mini-odyssey with lots of creativity and even more laugh-out-loud gags", in which a brilliant ensemble works with sharp dialogue to deliver an endearingly odd and endlessly entertaining slice of Kiwi life.

Beyond Anything I Could Have Hoped For
I thought I was going to walk away with a laughable and silly stoner comedy, but it turned out to be exactly that and a bit more. This movie actually has quite a surprising amount of heart, some great character development, and one of the trippiest story timelines to try and wrap your head around. While not a cinematically mind blowing movie, it is still has its impressive moments and holds up with most genuinely good comedies that are critically acclaimed. The writing is continually funny, the characters always seem to draw a laugh when they try, and the story centers all around this ridiculously small scale crime that is blown out of proportion. At times it feels like you're watching this epic movie because that's all movies are these days but you're quickly reminded the stakes and scale of the situation (imagine hodunk Alabama heist if you're from the states but slapped with a New Zealand sticker of approval). I would recommend this movie whether you're looking for a simple laugh or looking for that next great comedy that stands to the heights of Shaun of the Dead alike. Please give more movies like this a shot; I did and I don't regret it one bit!
