Series 1
Haunted by the failure to catch London's most evil killer, Jack the Ripper, Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) now heads up the notorious H Division - the toughest police district in the East End. Charged with keeping order in the blood-stained streets of Whitechapel, Reid and his men find themselves fighting to uphold justice and the rule of law; but always in the background lurks the fear of the Ripper - is he back for another reign of terror.

The shadow of the Ripper is still felt in the neighbourhood by the vigilantes, the sensation-seeking newspaper hacks and the men who hunted - and failed to find - the notorious murderer. It seems that even though the notorious killer has disappeared, there are plenty more willing to stain the streets of Whitechapel with their victims' blood...

Series 2
Based on the ratings we expecting to hear imminently that Ripper Street Series 2 will be commissioned by the BBC for another eight episodes. It premiered to 7.9 million viewers and a 26.1% share, to rank within BBC One's top ten highest rated drama programmes in 2012 and outperformed the channel's slot and prime time average share.

The debut easily won its time slot against all competition, with 1.6 million viewers more than its nearest rival ITV1.

Expect returning characters with more of the same rich storylines that meld with the intrigue of a criminal underworld festering on the hard streets of Victorian London, following the battle of the men whose job it is to bring the law to the lawless...
