High-Quality Toys

Placing an emphasis on articulation, the figma series is a line of Japanese PVC/ABS action figures that was created by Max Watanabe (the CEO of Max Factory) and Masaki Asai. The first set of products was released in 2008, their purpose being to compete with Kaiyodo’s Revoltech line, which similarly incorporated increased mobility. In all cases, figma action figures are packaged with several accessories, including swappable hands and faceplates, and some parts can be mixed and matched with other products in the line. The line features a variety of characters from pop culture (movies, TV series, video games, and comic books), most of which are significant in Japan: The Legend Of Zelda, Overwatch, The Boys, Demon Slayer, Persona, Bloodborne, Attack On Titan, Doom, Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Quest, and Death Stranding — among others.

Released in 2008, the first figma product, a special edition Haruhi Suzumiya, was packaged alongside the PS2 game Suzumiya Haruhi No Tomadoi. A Yuki Nagato figure (from The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya), the first standard release, was made available in the following month. These established the classic format of the line, standing between 13 to 16cm and being presentable on an articulated stand.

As a result of the line’s popularity in Japan, news platforms such as the entertainment magazines Famitsu and Dengeki Hobby frequently talk about the latest releases.
