The Leader Of Plastic Model Kits

Founded by Lewis H. Glaser, Revell is an American-based company that manufactures plastic model kits. Glaser started this venture in the mid ’40s, intending to create an accurate-to-scale car using plastic components. Although the idea originated in California, it soon became an international passion, with people from all walks of life involving themselves in the hobby.

In 1956, a German subsidiary was founded in the town of Bünde, and it eventually began developing its own products without the oversight of its overseas parent company. The first independent product to be created by this subsidiary was a 1:8 scale model of a BMW R75/5, which emerged in 1971. Over the following years, the company added further accessories, airbrush products, and die-cast models to its offerings.

Continuing to evolve, Revell has delved into the territory of film and TV, its model kits featuring some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. One of the most prolific examples is the Star Wars line, which comprises a massive fleet of spaceships and ground vehicles: the Razor Crest, the Death Star, AT-AT, Imperial Star Destroyer, X-Wing, and Tie Fighter, amongst others.

The universal appeal of model making — a hobby that attracts an audience both young and old — has made the brand a huge success. This is exemplified by products like the Titanic replica, an item that has achieved more than 2 million sales.
