Marvel’s Greatest Heroes

Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the Avengers made their Marvel Universe debut in 1963. The original team comprised Iron Man (Steve Rogers), Thor (Thor Odinson), the Wasp (Janet van Dyne), Ant-Man (Hank Pym), and the Hulk (Bruce Banner). However, they were later joined by Captain America in the fourth issue of their self-titled series. Normally, each member of the team operates independently, and they only unite when the threat proves too grave for them to handle on their own.

In addition to the source material, the superhero ensemble has featured in a number of live-action films. After the successful launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the fan-favorite characters — Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) — assembled to face Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in The Avengers (2012), a film directed by Joss Whedon. Since then, various sequels have been released: Age Of Ultron (2015), Infinity War (2018), and Endgame (2019).

Age Of Ultron picks up after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and introduces the eponymous villain, a sentient AI created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. Infinity War and Endgame, on the other hand, focus on Thanos and his hunt for the Infinity Stones. Over time, the team has expanded its ranks, enlisting the likes of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the Vision (Paul Bettany).
