Once Upon A Time

Throughout history, the story of Cinderella has received many different interpretations, the oldest of which can be traced back to Ancient Egypt. Modern audiences will be most familiar with Walt Disney’s 1950 animated film, a story that draws inspiration from Charles Perrault’s written works. To this day, the eponymous character remains one of the most popular Disney Princesses ever created, taking her place beside the likes of Snow White and Pocahontas.

In the classic Disney movie, Cinderella (voiced by Ilene Woods) is the step-daughter of Lady Tremaine (Eleanor Audley), a cruel woman with a deep-rooted jealousy of Cinderella’s beauty. After the death of Cinderella’s father, she is abused relentlessly by both Tremaine and her two daughters, Drizella (Rhoda Williams) and Anastasia (Lucille Bliss), who force her to serve them. Nevertheless, the ill-treated girl continues to dream of a better life, holding on to her compassion as she befriends the animals that live around the estate.

One day, it is announced that the King (Luis Van Rooten) and the Grand Duke (Van Rooten) are organizing a ball to find a suitable partner for Prince Charming (William Edward Phipps). Lady Tremaine allows her step-daughter to come on the condition that she completes her chores and finds a suitable dress. However, when she manages this, Drizella and Anastasia tear her outfit to shreds. All seems lost until the Fairy Godmother (Verna Felton) appears and provides her with everything she requires: a new dress, glass slippers, and a pumpkin carriage. Attending the ball, her stunning appearance quickly catches the eye of the prince, and they fall in love over the course of the evening. Unfortunately, the Fairy Godmother’s spell wears off at the turn of midnight, forcing Cinderella to flee. She leaves behind a glass slipper, which the Prince uses to find her.
