Birth Of The California Sound

Hailing from California, the Beach Boys is an American rock band that is recognized as one of the most influential of all time. Throughout their decades-long history, they released dozens of studio albums, including Surfin' Safari (1962), Surfin' U.S.A. (1963), Surfer Girl (1963), Little Deuce Coupe (1963), Shut Down Volume 2 (1964), All Summer Long (1964), The Beach Boys' Christmas Album (1964), The Beach Boys Today! (1965), Pet Sounds (1966), Keepin' The Summer Alive (1980), and That's Why God Made The Radio (2012) — among others. To date, they have sold more than 100 million records, making them both an immense critical and commercial success.

When the band was formed, it comprised Brian Wilson (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Dennis Wilson (vocals, drums, and keyboards), Carl Wilson (vocals, guitars, and keyboards), Mike Love (vocals, percussion, and saxophone), and Al Jardine (vocals and guitars). However, they were later joined by others: Bruce Johnston (vocals, keyboards, guitar), David Marks (vocals and guitars), Blondie Chaplin (vocals and guitars), and Ricky Fataar (vocals, drums, guitars, and flute).

Unlike many bands of their era, they managed to withstand the influx of British musicians that dominated the market in the US, an event known as the British Invasion. This was due to their unique sound, which generated big hitters like “Surfin’ U.S.A.”. To pay homage to their astronomical impact on the industry, they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in the late ‘80s.
