The Mod Revival

Formed in 1972, the Jam was an English band that originated from Surrey. Their original line-up comprised Paul Weller (vocals, guitars, and keyboards), Rick Buckler (drums and percussion), and Bruce Foxton (vocals and guitars); however, their ranks expanded to include Steve Brooks (lead guitar) and Dave Waller (rhythm guitar).

A frequent name featured on the United Kingdom Top 40, the band released dozens of popular songs throughout their time in the spotlight: “That’s Entertainment”, “Going Underground”, “The Eton Rifles”, “The Bitterest Pill”, “Down In The Tube Station At Midnight”, “Just Who Is The Five O’Clock Hero”, “Beat Surrender”, “English Rose”, “Strange Town”, “Dreams Of Children”, “Town Called Malice”, “The Butterfly Collector”, “Man In The Corner Shop”, “When You’re Young”, and many more. The majority of these tunes were collected as part of the Jam’s six studio albums, which are In The City (1977), This Is The Modern World (1977), All Mod Cons (1978), Setting Sons (1979), Sound Affects (1980), and The Gift (1982).

Decades after the disbanding of the group, Buckler formed the Gift (alongside Russel Hastings and David Moore), a band that played old hits from the Jam’s discography. Foxton would eventually join as bassist, the band choosing to adopt the name From The Jam. Despite the collaborative efforts of Buckler and Foxton, Weller has refused to involve himself, expressing that the band split at the appropriate time.
