What Do You Remember?

Created in 1992 by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton, Bloodshot is a fictional superhero existing in the Valiant Universe. He first appeared on the pages of Eternal Warrior #4, published by Valiant Comics.

The character is constantly powered by nanites (microscopic machines) that flow through his bloodstream. This transformation left him with chalk-white skin, a red circular scar on his chest, and bloodshot eyes — hence the name. In addition to his aesthetic differences, the nanites also provide superhuman abilities: strength, regeneration using protein stores, shapeshifting, and technopathy (control over machines).

Originally, Bloodshot was a hitman named Angelo Mortalli. However, after Acclaim Entertainment bought Valiant Comics, writers Len Kaminski and artist Sal Velluto rebooted the character in 1997, giving him a new backstory as an undercover operative named Raymond Garrison. He uses the identity of Angelo Mortalli to infiltrate the mafia, but he is killed and resurrected by the nanites.

In 2020, the character made the jump to the big screen in the self-titled Bloodshot movie. Directed by David S. F. Wilson, the film stars Vin Diesel as Bloodshot, Eiza González as KT, Sam Heughan as Jimmy Dalton, Toby Kebbell as Martin Axe, and Lamorne Morris as Wilfred Morris.
