A Timeless Tale

Disney is one of the most well-known and successful companies to have ever existed, having successfully conquered the animation, film, and television industries.

A magical tale beginning in 1923, the company was founded by the brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney. The original title of the company was ‘Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio’ until 1986 when it was officially changed to ‘The Walt Disney Company’.

The Disney Princess franchise is one of Disney’s earliest creations, releasing Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs in 1937 — the first of many female-led feature films. Following the success of this film, Disney continued to create more endearing films, taking audiences on a decade-spanning magical journey.

Throughout the evolution of the Disney Princess franchise, the various protagonists have displayed individual characteristics, with each princess being different to the next. Merida from Brave (2012) shows that even though she was a princess, she could do anything her heart desired, going against the gender equality of that time. And Mulan from Mulan (1998) takes her father's place in the military and becomes a soldier, fighting for her family and honour.
