Welcome To The Night Shift

Created by Scott Cawthon (an indie video-game developer and writer), the first installment in the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise was released in 2014. The video game puts players in control of night-shift employee called Mike Schmidt, who works at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a fictional pizza restaurant populated by animatronic characters: Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and Freddy Fazbear. When the lights go out, these terrifying machines skulk the building, and any direct encounter results in deadly consequences. The unlucky soul will be forced inside a leftover animatronic costume, which will inadvertently lead to their untimely death.

So as to avoid this grizzly fate, Mike (the player) must keep an eye on a network of security cameras. These provide a view of the restaurant, allowing him to monitor the activities of the roaming characters. However, if he should run out of power, these defences will become vulnerable, and the shift will conclude prematurely (and violently). In total, there are five levels to complete, each of which grows increasingly more challenging.

Following the debut of the first game on PC, the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise became an immediate hit. This was partly a result of the attention provided by YouTubers, who created video content that focused on them trying to complete the levels. As of this day, the franchise comprises multiple sequels and books, expanding upon the story.
