Full Metal Jacket is a critically acclaimed 1987 British-American war film. Directed and co-written by esteemed film director Stanley Kubrick, the film successfully added to his expanding roster of timeless movies.

Based on the 1979 novel ‘The Short Timers’ by Gustav Hasford, Full Metal Jacket recounts the Vietnam war in vivid detail. While not a direct true story, the novel drew heavily from Hasford’s experiences during the Vietnam war as a Marine correspondent, granting Kubrick’s adaptation a level of authenticity missing from many entries in the war film genre.

Full Metal Jacket attempted to capture Hasford’s depiction of the reality of war in cinematic detail, taking the audience on an eye-opening journey through the events of this harrowing conflict.

Following an American military unit, Full Metal Jacket stars Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, Vincent D’Onforio, R. Lee Ermey, Arliss Howard, and Ed O’Ross. This stellar cast brings the film together in a passionately articulated bow, drawing on the mentality of soldiers serving during this violent war.
