Breakfast At Tony’s

Released in 1955, Lady And The Tramp is a Walt Disney animated film that was directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske. Story artist Joe Grant originally envisioned the plot as a solo adventure starring the eponymous Lady; however, Walt Disney himself suggested that they include a secondary character in the same vein as writer Ward Greene’s protagonist in “Happy Dan, The Cynical Dog” (a short story published in the Cosmopolitan magazine). This led to the creation of Tramp.

Set in the early 1900s, the story begins with Lady (Barbara Luddy), a Cocker Spaniel, enjoying a pampered lifestyle as the prized pet of Jim (Lee Millar) and Darling Dear (Peggy Lee). Unfortunately, the couple becomes less affectionate when they are expecting a baby, a fact that is explained to Lady by two local dogs, Jock (Bill Thompson) and Trusty (Bill Baucom). During their exchange, Tramp (Larry Roberts), a stray from across town, interrupts to explain his views on the situation: “When a baby moves in, a dog moves out.” However, his assessment proves false, as Lady becomes very attached to the new infant.

One day, Jim and Darling depart for a vacation, leaving both their dog and child in the care of Aunt Sarah (Verna Felton). To Lady’s dismay, the new house sitter isn’t fond of dogs, and she brings along her two cats, Si (Lee) and Am (Lee), who purposefully attempt to make her life difficult. After Aunt Sarah muzzles Lady for perceived misbehaving, the scared dog runs away. It is in this moment that she meets Tramp for the second time, and their love starts to blossom.
