The Circle Of Life

In 1994, Walt Disney Pictures released The Lion King, an animated feature film that features an iconic musical score (which was composed by Hanz Zimmer). The narrative follows a young lion cub called Simba (Matthew Broderick/Jonathan Taylor Thomas), who is the son of the King Of The Pride Lands, Mufasa (James Earl Jones). Growing up, he learns about his responsibility as the heir to the kingdom, being taught the concept behind the “circle of life”. However, Simba’s world is turned upside down when his uncle, Scar (Jeremy Irons), concocts a plan to overthrow Mufasa. The black-maned lion enlists the support of three hyenas — Ed (Jim Cummings), Shenzi (Whoopi Goldberg), and Banzai (Cheech Marin) — and manages to lure his brother into a trap. This trap involves a stampede of wildebeest that the hyenas have successfully herded to a gorge. Mufasa comes to rescue his son, who is in the middle of the chaos, but falls to his death after Scar refuses to help him.

Simba escapes a similar fate, retreating toward the desert. There he encounters the meerkat Timon (Nathan Lane) and the warthog Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), whom Simba chooses to stay with. The young cub ages into an adult lion, living in a tropical oasis and singing the motto of his friends, “hakuna matata”. His carefree existence comes to an end, however, when his childhood friend Nala (Moira Kelly/Niketa Calame) implores him to return to Pride Lands, which is now a desolate landscape as a result of Scar’s negligence.
