A Critically Acclaimed Drama Series
Created by Matthew Weiner, Mad Men is an American TV series set during the ‘60s and early ‘70s. The show aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015, its 92nd episode wrapping up the seventh and final season.
Focusing on Don Draper (Jon Hamm), a successful advertising executive working at Sterling Cooper, which is located on Madison Avenue in Manhattan (giving rise to the informal designation “Mad Men”), the plot details his journey through the business world and delves into the hidden secrets of his past. Throughout the series, Don works alongside various colorful characters: Roger Sterling (John Slattery), Don’s former mentor; Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser), an account executive; and Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks), the head secretary.
Much of the show revolves around Don’s life outside of work, exploring the complex relationship between him and his wife, Betty (January Jones). Despite having three children — Sally (Kiernan Shipka), Bobby (Mason Vale Cotton), and Gene — Don hides a string of affairs with other women. Nevertheless, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as his past exploits in the Korean War come to light, revealing the truth behind his adopted persona.
In addition to its popularity with fan, Mad Men has received numerous accolades. Notably, the show has been awarded 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes, cementing its position as one of the greatest television runs of all time.
