A Champion For The Modern Era

In the comics, the moniker of Ms. Marvel has been adopted by multiple characters, the most prominent of whom are Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan. The first instance when this title was used occurred in the first issue of the series of the same name, wherein Danvers emerged with superpowers after being caught in an explosion that merged her DNA with the Kree Mar-Vell. However, she later assumed the identity of the man whose abilities she acquired, attempting to honour his memory following his death.

With the role vacant, it was Khan who assumed the position. A member of a race of superpowered beings known as Inhumans, she possesses the unique ability to manipulate the size and shape of her body, a powerset that bears resemblance to those of heroes such as Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards) and Ant-Man (Hank Pym). Having idolised Danvers for much of her life, Khan is eager to use her newfound powers to protect innocents from all manner of threats, so she wastes little time before donning a red-and-blue outfit complete with a traditional domino mask and scarf. After a period of successful crime fighting, she is given the opportunity to join the Avengers, which she accepts in advance of forming a team of younger heroes, the Champions.

Ms. Marvel made her live-action debut in a Disney+ TV series of the same name, which was available to stream in 2022. Played by actor Iman Vellani, Khan remains mostly unchanged, the show focusing on the struggles that stem from being an America-based teenage girl of Pakistani descent. Her life becomes even more complicated when she discovers a magical bangle capable of forming constructs derived from cosmic energy.
