A Cult Classic Nicktoon

First aired in 1991 on the children’s channel Nickelodeon, The Ren & Stimpy Show was created by John Kricfalusi and produced by Spümcø. Unlike most TV series aimed at kids, the “Nicktoon” was known for its controversial use of adult humor and had multiple disputes with Nickelodeon’s Standards And Practices department. Nevertheless, it ran for five seasons and boasted 51 episodes by the time of its conclusion in 1996, having received positive reviews from critics. To this day, it retains a loyal cult fanbase.

The show follows its eponymous characters: Ren Höek (voiced by John Kricfalusi and Billy West), a Chihuahua; and Stimpson J. "Stimpy" Cat (West), a cat. Together, the duo — one short-tempered, the other dim-witted — embark on various adventures. Each episode sees them assuming different roles, such as space explores, nature-show hosts, and Old West thieves. In addition to the titular protagonists, The Ren & Stimpy Show also features a number of supporting cast members: Mr. Horse (Kricfalusi and West), an anthropomorphic horse; Powdered Toast Man (Gary Owens), a superhero and spokesman for his namesake company; Muddy Mudskipper (Harris Peet), an amphibious fish with the typical attributes of a comedian; and Haggis McHaggis (Alan Young), a former cartoon star — among others.
