The World Ain’t All Sunshine And Rainbows

Released in 1976, Rocky is a drama film that centers around boxing. Actor Sylvester Stallone plays the eponymous character, Rocky Balboa, who is a debt collector working on behalf of a loan shark. At the beginning of the movie, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), the heavyweight boxing world champion, offers the opportunity for an amateur fighter to step into the ring with him. Balboa is selected by Creed, and he starts his intensive training regime. Former bantamweight fighter Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith) offers to mentor him, providing his signature words of wisdom and no-nonsense demeanour. After a series of montages, the film eventually concludes with the big showdown, a clash of titans recognized as one of the most iconic moments in movie history.

Throughout the years, there have been a number of sequels: Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990), and Rocky Balboa (2006). In 2015, the first instalment of a spin-off film series starring Michael B. Jordan was released: Creed. These movies pick up years after the originals and focus on the son of Apollo Creed, Adonis "Donnie" Johnson Creed. Like his father, Donnie wants to become a professional boxer, ignoring the warnings of his adoptive mother, Mary Anne (Phylicia Rashad), who reminds him about his father’s death at the hands of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren).
