Welcome To The Winchester

Directed by Edgar Wright, Shaun Of The Dead (2004) is the first instalment in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, a series of films written by Wright and actor Simon Pegg. In the film, Pegg plays the part of Shaun, who is a down-on-his-luck electric salesman living in London. To escape the woes of his day-to-day life, he often visits a local pub known as the Winchester, where he drinks copious amounts of lager alongside Ed (Nick Frost), his best friend.

Shortly after being dumped by Liz (Kate Ashfield), his girlfriend, Shaun discovers that London has been overwhelmed by zombies. He initially finds his flatmate Pete (Peter Serafinowicz) having turned into one of the undead and abandons his home with Ed. They gather their friends and family — including Barbara (Penelope Wilton), Dianne (Lucy Davis), David (Dylan Moran), and Philip (Bill Nighy) — and take refuge in the Winchester. Unfortunately, many of the survivors don’t last very long, succumbing to the overwhelming numbers of the zombie horde. Those who remain are forced to barricade the pub while holding off their attackers with a rifle and tons of improvised weapons.

Thanks to its use of intelligent parody, Shaun Of The Dead became an immediate success after releasing in theaters. It kicked off the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, which spawned two more standalone films: Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World’s End (2013).
