Take A Stroll Down Baker Street

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle introduced Sherlock Holmes in A Study In Scarlet (1887), a detective novel that centers around a murder mystery. In most of the character’s appearances, he is joined by Dr. John H. Watson, who often lives alongside him in 221B Baker Street, London. Together, they solve various cases for clients, using logic and deductive reasoning to great effect.

Since the debut of the character, he has featured in various forms of media, such as film and television. Two of the most popular adaptations come in the form of Sherlock (a BBC-produced TV series starring Benedict Cumberbatch) and Sherlock Holmes (a film series starring actor Robert Downey Jr.).

Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock first aired in 2016 and has since spanned multiple three-part seasons and one-off episodes. Unlike traditional interpretations, this iteration of the character exists in a modern setting. However, he is still accompanied by Watson (Martin Freeman).

In addition to the TV series, director Guy Ritchie revealed his unique film adaptation with the eponymous 2009 film. Downey Jr. took on the role alongside Jude Law (Watson), and they both returned to star in the 2011 sequel, A Game Of Shadows. Drawing inspiration from the source material, the second film introduces Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris), the franchise’s most prominent villain.
