The Clone Wars Begins

Following in the footsteps of the Original Trilogy, the Star Wars Prequels reintroduced audiences to a galaxy far, far away and told the story of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the Jedi Knight who would one day become the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Director George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, returned to direct Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999). The first instalment in the Skywalker Saga features a young Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), as they meet with the Trade Federation to stop them from launching an invasion on the planet Naboo. After things don’t go to plan, the two escape to the planet’s surface and rescue Queen Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman). They intend to bring her to Corusant, the Republic’s capital; however, their ship is damaged, forcing them to find repairs on Tatooine. Here they meet Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), a child slave, whom they free and invite into the Jedi Order.

The second entry in the Prequel Trilogy, Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (2002), picks up many years after the events of its predecessor. Since Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul (Ray Park), Obi-Wan is left with the responsibility to train Anakin (Hayden Christensen) as his new padawan. Throughout the film, the plot deals with the young Anakin’s attempts to follow the Jedi way, but he finds himself falling in love with Padmé and plagued with visions of his dying mother (Pernilla August).

Wrapping up the trilogy, Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (2005) is set during the final moments of the Clone Wars. As the Republic moves closer to capturing General Grievous, the leader of the Separatist forces, the mysterious Sith Lord Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid) puts his grand plan into motion.
