Escape From The First Order

Following the successful release of Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), director Rian Johnson took responsibility for the second installment in the sequel trilogy, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017). The film picks up directly after the climactic battle of its predecessor, following General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) as she attempts to evacuate the Resistance. The First Order, having suffered a terrible defeat at Starkiller Base, have amassed a fleet of starships to wipe out their enemies. In response, the Resistance jumps into hyperspace; however, the First Order uses a new device that enables them to follow.

While the Resistance uses its remaining fuel to flee, Rey (Daisy Ridley) implores the self-exiled Jedi Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to aid them. Still feeling remorse for the loss of his apprentices, he refuses. Nevertheless, R2-D2 (Jimmy Vee) manages to convince him to offer Rey training in the ways of the Force. During the process, she starts communing with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who reveals that Luke feared his potential and attempted to kill him. Knowing this, Rey abandons Ahch-To and sets out to bring the corrupted Ben Solo back to the light.

When the pair finally meet, Kylo brings her to his master, Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). Snoke commands his apprentice to kill Rey, but he instead uses a lightsaber to murder him. Side by side, Kylo and Rey face Snoke’s Praetorian Guard, and Rey believes that he has been redeemed. Her hopes, however, are dashed after he announces his intentions to rule the galaxy.
