A Small Adventure

In 1995, Pixar Animation Studios released the first instalment in the Toy Story franchise. Directed by John Lasseter, the film follows a number of anthropomorphic toys owned by a young boy called Andy Davis (John Morris): Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles), Slinky Dog (Jim Varney), Rex (Wallace Shaun), Hamm (John Ratzenberger), and Bo Peep (Annie Potts).

The plot of the film begins with Andy’s birthday party, and the toys are anxious about new gifts that could potentially replace them. To their dismay, Andy receives a Buzz Lightyear action figure. This gift immediately becomes his new favorite, upsetting Woody. Shortly after the party, the family prepares to go to Pizza Planet, and Andy is allowed to bring one toy. Woody, not wanting Buzz to be chosen over him, uses RC (a remote-controlled car) to push him out of sight. However, he accidently knocks him out of the window. Buzz later confronts woody about this, and they fall from the car while fighting. Separated from their owner, they must work together to find their way back.

Following the successful reception of the film, Pixar created a number of sequels and spin-offs. 2022 saw the release of Lightyear, an origin story that details how Buzz (voice by Chris Evans) went from a test pilot to a Space Ranger.
