Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland (2009) is a comedy film set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by zombies. The outbreak began after a new strain of mad cow disease spread to humans through consumption of meat products. Unexpectedly, this turned a large proportion of the population into flesh-hungry cannibals and forced the remaining survivors to adapt to their deadly new environment. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is one of these survivors, a college student trying to find out if his parents are alive. On his journey into the unknown, he encounters the Twinkie-loving Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), and the pair reluctantly agree to travel together. Their group expands even further when they meet Wichita (Emma Stone) and her younger sister, Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). Despite their less-than-cordial first introduction, the girls having stolen their vehicle, they eventually put aside their differences and decide to travel to the Pacific Playland amusement park, a possible sanctuary from the zombies.

In 2019, Fleischer returned to direct Zombieland: Double Tap, the long-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed movie. The original characters — Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock — also return, and the story resumes with the six-year-old makeshift family living in the abandoned White House. They later meet Madison (Zoe Deutch), Berkeley (Avan Jogia), Nevada (Rosario Dawson), Albuquerque (Luke Wilson), and Flagstaff (Thomas Middleditch).
