Following a 16-year hiatus for the Doctor Who TV series, our favourite Time Lord made his triumphant return in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor.

Despite only starring for one season, Eccleston made a massive impression on viewers thanks to his unique portrayal – which was more grounded to appeal to modern audiences.
