Good, but not great, for the price.

Let me just start by saying I love the Mass Effect soundtracks. The first game has a special place in my heart, as does the soundtrack. You'd have to love it to spend this much on a video game soundtrack! Now to the product. The outer box looks great, and the lettering has this cool black/red shine to it. I was surprised to see the inside sleeve was connected together like a folder instead of individual sleeves like most do. That said, the absence of any pack ins, such as a poster, or a booklet about the various composers or the creation process, brings it down a star. For this price I think it's okay to expect a little more from this package. Even the inner sleeves that protect the record are plain black, instead of printed with art from the record's respective game. On to the records themselves. The clear vinyl is nice, not my favorite but better than plain black. I'd have preferred the color ones but it's nice to see something different. Funny enough, the Frozen 2 soundtrack has the same clear vinyl. The quality of the music pressed onto the disc is what I expected, clean and clear. That is, when a vinyl defect isn't causing a repetitive static noise (ksh... ksh... ksh...) or a pop or hiss now and again. It's incredibly dry right now so I'm hoping some of this is just static from friction and the environment. If I wanted completely clean audio I would have bought the digital soundtrack. However, the amount of noise on the record was more than I expected, and more prevelant than on other soundtracks and records I own. Because of this I docked another star. All in all, I'm happy to own the soundtrack collection to one of my top five games ever, but some of the aesthetic choices, and the quality of the records themselves, left a little bit more to be desired from a product that costs three to four times the amount of others.
