The Jewel Of Marvel

Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, Jessica Jones is a character that exists in the Marvel Universe. She was first introduced in Alias #1 (2001), a comic series under the banner of the Max imprint (for mature content).

The owner of Alias Private Investigations, Jessica possesses unique powers that resulted from an accident when she was a child. This accident took the lives of her family but gave her incredible strength, flight, and durability because of exposure to radioactive material. Inspired by Spider-Man, who happened to be one of her classmates, she decided to use her powers for good and adopted the superhero persona Jewel. However, she later abandoned her newfound identity after a dark encounter with the Purple Man, Zebediah Killgrave.

As well as staring in her own solo series, she has appeared as a member of the Defenders, a street-level superhero team. Unlike her peers, Jessica remains reluctant to don her superhero outfit, often seen sporting a non-descript leather jacket.

In 2015, Jessica was brought to live-action in her self-titled Netflix series. The first season sees Jessica (played by actor Krysten Ritter) confront her past as Killgrave (David Tennant), her former abuser, returns to claim her once again. Equipped with the power to control minds, Killgrave is more than a match for Jessica’s brute strength, forcing her to rely on intellect.

The character returned for a team-up series called The Defenders (2017). This show melded the core Marvel series on Netflix — Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist — together, pitting the protagonists against a villainous organization known as the Hand.
