Huh? “Soundtrack”?

I’ve seen The Exorcist…oh…probably 50 times. And other than Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells”, a piece that will always be associated with the film and with demons and possession, is the only bit of music than I can recall. I know Friedkin (I’m going to now call him “Billy”) I know Billy threw out the Warner Brothers-instigated Lilo Schifrin score. I like Schifrin (his score for “Rollercoaster” is an over-looked classic), but I can imagine what it might’ve sounded like. And anyway, Billy was working at the height of his ego…err, his talent, and he made the decision to nix it in favor of that Bell thing. The story being that during post-production, it was used as a temp track. Billy F, after hearing Schifrin’s score, decided that he would rather just use the temp track. Billy wanted it, Billy got it. Okay, maybe I’ll watch it again. Though I just showed it to my 20 year old niece who had never seen it. That was this past Halloween. At the time of this writing, it’s only been a day or so more than 2 weeks. I’m all for this release, and as soon as I stop pecking away on my iPad, I’m going to order it. Thanks, Waxwork!
