Mattel

Fill your toy chest with Zavvi US’s wide range of Mattel Collectibles and games. Created by one of the biggest brands in the industry, our officially licensed products draw inspiration from pop culture’s greatest franchises (from films, TV series, and video games), such as WWE, Halo, and Masters Of The Universe.

A World-Famous Toy Company

Established in 1945, Mattel is an American company that manufactures Collectibles. In terms of revenue, it is the second-largest toy manufacturer in the world (behind the LEGO Group), having installed sites in 35 countries and distributed its products to more than 150. Said products are designed after some of the world’s most popular licenses: WWE, Jurassic Park, The Mandalorian, Pokémon, Game Of Thrones, Halo, Harry Potter, Thomas & Friends, Polly Pocket, Fisher-Price, American Girl, UNO, Masters Of The Universe, Barbie, Hot Wheels, MEGA, Monster High, Enchantimals, Ever After High, and My Scene — Among others.

Mattel was founded by Ruth Handler, Elliot Handler, and Harold Matson, the company being named after the latter two (by blending their respective nicknames, ‘El’ and ‘Matt’). During the early days, they operated out of a garage, selling a range of picture frames and dollhouse furniture. However, they didn’t see huge success until the debut of the Uke-A-Doodle, a type of ukulele. This growth was further bolstered by the release of the Barbie doll in 1959, which became the company’s most profitable toy. Incentivised by this success, they later manufactured a pull-string doll called Chatty Cathy, and this led to this type of product dominating the market throughout the ’60s and ’70s.
