Not Your Ordinary Family

Released in 2004, The Incredibles is an animated superhero film created by Pixar Animation Studios. The plot focuses on a superpowered family attempting to keep their unique abilities hidden. Bob and Helen Parr, the two parents of the household, were superheroes during their younger years: Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. However, they were forced into retirement by the government after the general public became upset with the collateral damage that resulted from their encounters with criminals. 15 years later, they now have three children — Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack — and they are each capable of extraordinary things. Violet can turn invisible and generate forcefields, whereas Dash can run at exceptional speeds.

In secret, Bob takes to the streets with his friend Lucius Best (also known as the superhero Frozone) and fights criminals to escape mundanity of his ordinary life. Unfortunately, his insatiable need to combat injustice bubbles to the surface when his boss, Gilbert Huph, prevents him from intervening in a mugging. He loses his temper and assaults him. Not long after, Bob is contacted by a woman called Mirage, who offers him the opportunity to be a hero again. Bob eagerly accepts, but his excitement draws to a close when he discovers that his faceless employer is Buddy Pine, a former fan with a burning desire to become a superhero. To accomplish his aims, he creates a nearly unbeatable robot, the Omnidroid, and intends to unleash it upon the public. Wanting to save Bob, the rest of the Parr family join the conflict.

The film became an immediate success upon its release, and Pixar released a direct sequel more than a decade later. Incredibles 2 (2018) centers around Helen’s attempts to restore the public’s faith in superheroes and introduces a new villain, the Screenslaver.
