Who Will Claim The Shield?

Released in 2021, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is a spin-off television series made for the Disney+ streaming platform. The show is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and continues the superhero adventures of Bucky Barns/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie).

Picking up six months after the climactic events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), in which Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) relinquished his shield, the narrative follows Sam and Bucky as they come to terms with the loss of their friend and ally. Sam, who was given the iconic shield, feels unworthy of the mantle and offers Captain America’s vibranium-made companion to the Smithsonian Institution, believing that they will display it. However, he soon discovers the existence of a new Captain America: John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

Shortly after, Bucky discovers that Sam handed over the shield and confronts him regarding the matter. They don’t see eye to eye, but they agree to work with each other to combat the Flag Smashers, a group of anarchists who possess abilities resembling those bestowed by the Super-Soldier Serum. Throughout the remainder of the season, the pair work together to combat this new threat. Their mission brings them into contact with various familiar faces, such as Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), the principal villain in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Sharon Carter/Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp).
