The Last Daughter Of Krypton

Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Supergirl (also known as Kara Zor-El) exists in the DC Universe. The cousin of Superman (Kal-El), she was introduced in Action Comics #252 (1959). Like the Man Of Steel, Kara is a survivor of Krypton’s destruction, having been sent away in a shuttle by her parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, to avoid the coming cataclysm. Despite being older than Kal, she appears younger, as she was trapped in a Kryptonite asteroid for many years. When she finally arrives on Earth, her cousin has already become the hero Superman, an identity she eventually repurposes for herself.

In 2015, CBS released a Supergirl TV series. Set in the Arrowverse (the collective name for all the shows that exist in the same universe as CW’s Arrow), the show follows the exploits of the eponymous character (played by actor Melissa Benoist) as she attempts to protect National City and the rest of Earth from threats both terrestrial and alien. Along the way, she is helped by allies and hindered by villains. Some of these characters include Martian Manhunter (David Harewood), Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan), Brainiac 5 (Jessie Rath), Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Mon-El (Chris Wood), Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer), Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), and Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) — among others.
