He’s Back

Starring Keanu Reeves as the eponymous character, John Wick was released in 2014. The film was directed by Chad Stahelski and follows Wick’s journey of revenge after a group of men broke into his home, stole his car, and killed his dog — shortly after the passing of his wife, Helen.

Prior to these events, Wick was a retired assassin. He was formerly employed by Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist), the head of the Russian crime syndicate and the father of the man who broke into Wick’s home. Wick was allowed to retire on one condition: he needed to complete a series of impossible tasks. Naturally, he succeeded.

Wanting to protect his son, Iosef (Alfie Allen), from the so-called “Baba Yaga”, Viggo places a $2 million bounty on Wick’s head. Over the course of the film, Wick takes on a large portion of the criminal underworld. He takes up residence in the New York Continental Hotel, a neutral location owned by Winston (Ian McShane).

Following the release of the first film, there were a number of sequels, including John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Each of these films dives deeper into the underworld, featuring tons of intense action scenes and unique characters, such as the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and Sofia Al-Azwa (Halle Berry).
