A World Of Monsters

A Japanese manga series created by Koyoharu Gotouge (a writer and illustrator), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba (2016–2020) was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump, a shōnen manga magazine owned by Shueisha Inc.

The plot focuses on a young boy called Tanjiro Kamado, who provides for his family in his deceased father’s absence. His life changes when he returns from a nearby village, as he discovers that his family has been attacked by a demon (supernatural creatures that sold their humanity for power). To make things worse, Nezuko — his sister and the only other survivor — has been transformed into one of these monsters, though she retains some of her human characteristics. It is this event that sets Tanjiro on a path toward Giyū Tomioka, a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Tomioka accepts the young boy into their ranks, sending him to Sakonji Urokodaki (his former master) for training. With the assistance of unique Breathing Styles, Tanjiro intends to have his revenge and find a way to reverse the process that has almost overtaken Nezuko.

In 2019, the popular manga was adapted to anime format by the Japanese animation studio Ufotable. This was succeeded by a movie spin-off subtitled Mugan Train (2020), which became the highest-grossing Japanese movie in history.
