Run From The Living And The Dead

Created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, the first Mad Max film was released in 1979. The movie starred Mel Gibson as the eponymous Max Rockatansky, an officer of the Main Force Patrol, as he drifts across the deprived landscape of a post-apocalyptic Australia, which is suffering from resource shortages and the effects of war. Early on in the story, Max’s wife (Joanne Samuel) and child are killed by a biker gang, and he vows to track down the culprits.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) picks up after Max accomplishes his revenge. Driving the wastelands, he comes across a small group of settlers led by Pappagallo (Mike Preston). Initially, Max concocts a scheme to steal their oil; however, he finds himself falling into the role of protector as the community is attacked by Humungus (Kjell Nilsson) and his group of ill-intentioned marauders.

In 1985, Mad Max Beyond The Thunderdome sent Gibson’s character to Bartertown. Ruled by Queen Aunty Entity (Tina Turner), the small market town is home to the Thunderdome, where Max must face the dreaded Master Blaster (Angelo Rositto/Paul Larsson/Stephen Hayes).

Director Miller returned decades later for the fourth instalment in the franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). In place of Gibson, actor Tom Hardy takes on the role of Max as the character ventures to the Citadel. Here he meets Furiosa (Charlize Theron), an elite Imperator and driver of a War Rig. Having helped the wives of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) escape from his clutches, she is on the run from an immense convoy of vehicles, and Max finds himself embroiled in the chase.
