Welcome To Tokyo-3

Created by Hideaki Anno (a well-respected filmmaker), Neon Genesis Evangelion is a critically acclaimed anime series that aired on TV Tokyo from 1995 to 1996. The plot centers on Shinji Ikari (Spike Spencer), a young teenager who lives in a futuristic world previously ravaged by a cataclysmic event known as the Second Impact, which happened because of a failed science experiment in Antarctica.

Over a decade after the events of the Second Impact, Nerv paramilitary director Gendo Ikari (Ray Chase) summons Shinji, his son, to the futuristic city of Tokyo-3. On arrival, Shinji is greeted by a battle between the United Nations and an Angel, a giant creature capable of causing massive devastation to humanity. His father encourages him to pilot one of their defensive weapons: an Evangelion. Fitted with its own force-field and linked to the pilot’s nervous system, these impressive bio-machines are the only means of fighting the Angels. However, Shinji is completely unprepared, and the Unit-01 kills his opponent by itself. His resolve shaken but intact, he joins the Nerv crew, hoping that he can prevent the Third Impact by defeating the fourteen surviving Angels.

Despite the franchise being conceived as an anime, the manga was released first when the show encountered production delays. Nevertheless, the TV series quickly overtook its literary counterpart, and publication was suspended while its writer, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, focused on the development of the film series Rebuild Of Evangelion (2007–2021).
