Never Tell Him The Odds

Played by actor Harrison Ford, Han Solo made his theatrical debut in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977). Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and “Old Ben” Kenobi (Alec Guinness) travel to Mos Eisley, where Han and his ally Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) are located, and ask for their assistance with escaping Tatooine. Reluctantly, Han gives them permission to board his starship, the Millennium Falcon. This decision leads him to become affiliated with the Rebel Alliance and their war against the Galactic Empire, which transpires over the course of the original trilogy.

Decades after the release of Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi (1983), Han returned in Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), acting as a mentor figure for Rey (Daisy Ridley). It is revealed that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), a central antagonist in the sequel trilogy, is his son. Despite Han’s attempts to bring Ben (his son’s real name) back to the light side of the Force, he is stabbed by a lightsaber and thrown to his death.

In 2018, the character’s origins were explored in a self-titled prequel film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. The movie, which was directed by Ron Howard, is set ten years before the events of A New Hope and focuses on Han (now played by Alden Ehrenreich) as he transitions from a no-name orphan to a notorious smuggler. Audiences get to see him meet Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) for the first time, obtain his famous starship, and complete the legendary Kessel Run.
