S.L.A.I.
$32.99
In 2071 the sport of robot fighting is evidently more popular than football and boxing combined, although it probably evolved from Stock Car Racing. You see, the idea is to build a fighting robot then see how you fare against another guy's creative mass of spare parts and missiles.
There are over a million variations of robot to construct in the game, based on the wide variety of available body parts and weapons. In addition to mega powerful weapons, stealth also plays a part - you can even buy optical camouflage to turn your mech invisible! The control of each mech is highly customisable for your performance needs. However there are also pre-configured mechs to get you started.
Battles take place in arenas from cool futuristic international locations, which include Tokyo, New York and London. Two players can go head to head on the same PS2, but online is where it really counts.
Six players can log in to the same arena, while up to four can battle it out for honours - the remaining two are spectators, see. Plus, when one of the guys is defeated you can jump right in and take his place.
When you're not spending time in the garage, or sweating it out in versus battles, S.L.A.I. includes a story mode for you to explore. Over 50 hours of gameplay ought to keep you satisfied until the next real-world challenger comes along.
