All Hail The King

Featuring as a member of the Marvel Universe, T’Challa — better known as Black Panther — is a well-known superhero who was created by Stan Lee (writer) and Jack Kirby (artist). In the comics, he is the king of Wakanda, a country in Africa, and fulfils the role of its primary defender. He, unlike other members of royalty, is a warrior enhanced by consuming the heart-shaped herb. This grants him physiological improvements — including strength, speed, agility, healing, and acute senses — and a supernatural connection to Bast, the Wakandan Panther God. Using these unique abilities, T’Challa guards against his nation’s enemies, such as Namor The Sub-Mariner (the ruler of Atlantis) and Doctor Doom (the monarch of Latveria), and often aligns himself with like-minded teams of heroes, the most notable of which is the Avengers.

2016 saw the live-action debut of T’Challa (played by actor Chadwick Boseman) in the MCU, his first movie being Captain America: Civil War. He is compelled to join the ongoing political dispute between Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when his father, T’Chaka (John Kani), is killed by a terrorist-planted bomb in Vienna. This crime is pinned on Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), a former — unwilling — abettor of the villainous organisation Hydra being protected by Rogers. Eventually, T’Challa reconciles with Barnes, learning that it was Helmut Zemo who brought about T’Chaka’s death.

Following his cinematic introduction, T’Challa assumed the leading role in a self-titled movie: Black Panther (2018). The plot, which transpires predominantly on the king’s native homeland, focuses on a violent clash between the eponymous character and his newly discovered cousin, Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), who seeks the throne of Wakanda to launch a global revolt.
