The Hunt Begins

The first episode of The Mandalorian, a Disney+ TV series, was released in late 2019. Unlike its predecessors, the show fills part of the gap between Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi (1983) and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), showing audiences the condition of the galaxy after the collapse of the Galactic Empire. This is conveyed through the path of Din Djarin (played by actor Pedro Pascal), one of the last members of the people of Mandalore, a planet that was decimated by the Imperials.

Finding work as a respected member of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild, Djarin (also known as “Mando”) finds himself hired by the remnant forces of the Empire to locate and retrieve an unknown target. However, after tracking his bounty to the planet Arvala-7, he discovers that his quarry is an alien child, one that watchers will recognize as a member of Jedi Master Yoda’s species. Mando, unwilling to sentence the young creature to an unknown fate, goes on the run. Over the course of several seasons, the pair’s relationship flourishes, and Djarin learns that his companion, whose real name is Grogu, is a surviving member of the fallen Jedi Order. Though their bond deepens, Mando determines to locate the remainder of Grogu’s kind so as to give him the life that he deserves.
