Grand Master Of The Jedi order

Yoda (voiced by Frank Oz) first appeared in the second installment of the Star Wars original trilogy, Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980). A former Jedi Master, he trained Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in the ways of the Force, giving him the necessary skills to combat the Galactic Empire and Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones).

Living for nine centuries, the little green Jedi was alive during the age of the Republic. He fought in the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Republic and the Separatists, and managed to survive the near-complete extermination of the Jedi, which was initiated by Order 66. After the rise of the Galactic Empire, headed by Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), he exiled himself to the planet Degobah. He resided there for the remainder of his life, eventually passing away as a result of old age. However, his mastery of the Force was strong enough that he was able to transcend and become a ghost.

In the second entry in the sequel trilogy, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017), Yoda made a brief appearance to an aged and disillusioned Luke. He imparted one final piece of wisdom, encouraging him to let go of his guilt and aid the young Force user Rey (Daisy Ridley), whom he refused to train as a result of his previous failure with Ben Solo (Adam Driver).
